From Gordes we went to visit one of the great attractions of the area, the historic village of Bories. For those who know the trulli in Puglia or the mitata of Creta is not anything to rave about, otherwise it is a nice place and it deserves a visit. For the night we moved to Roussillon, famous for its ochres where we attended a blessing of the vines ceremony…
The village of Bories is located a few kilometers from Gordes. If you have a large RV you must park at the ample parking lot along the main road [43.90123,5.19294], 1700 meters from the site. The remaining part of the road is narrow to say the least, and definitely not recommended if your vehicle is over 6 meters long. Another alternative is to walk from Gordes. The village is only 4km away ;)
The entrance to the site costs 6€ per person, perhaps a bit too much for what it is but all in all not so bad. The similarity to the Greek mitata that we’ve visited so many times in Crete is impressive!
We arrive at St. Joseph parking area [43.89642,5.29601], recommended for campers, 700 meters from the village; it is beautiful, like being in a forest and it costs 2€ from 8.00 to 22.00 plus 5€ for the night. In winter, however, it is free (from mid-November to March 1). Here, too, a sign reminds us, rightly, that it is a car park not a camping site and that the motorhomers must behave like mature persons. No tables, no chairs, no awnings and tents…
Roussillon is very impressive and completely different from Gordes despite the fact that the two villages are only a few km apart! What a beautiful, colorful village!
The blessing of the vines was a nice surprise. The wine producers and the inhabitants of the area were celebrating Saint Vincent, patron saint of the vineyards. After the procession, Mass and the blessing we had the opportunity to taste the new local production! What a wonderful evening…
