Crete: Chania

soudaWe finally arrived at our last stop before embarking on our journey back to mainland Greece. After so many weeks wandering among the beauty and the wilderness of the Cretan landscape, fascinated by the island’s rich and diverse heritage, spending the last couple days in Chania was like the icing on the cake! It is not by chance that this town is considered one of the most picturesque in all Greece!

Crete, Akrotiri’s monasteries

soudaOn our way to Chania, last stop on our tour to the four corners of Crete, we decided to make a short detour and to visit the two monasteries of Akrotiri peninsula, often classified as “must-see” of the island. The first, moni Tzagarolon, is well worth its reputation. The second, moni Gouvernetou, was closed for restoration works so we have to content ourselves with a hike down to the deserted monastery of Katholikon. And it was really unique!
