We arrived to the Agora of Athens, my favorite site and the one I find to be the most photogenic, even compared to the Acropolis. In the Agorà park you can find it all: a temple among the best preserved in Greece, a museum full of statues and other interesting objects, a Byzantine church … a couple of hours go by without realizing it.

The Agora of Athens was the city’s central square, the center of public and political life. Here democracy was born, here was applied the ostracism and important public speeches were held. Coincidentally, agora in Greek means market , which is not very far from what democracy has become the today 😉

There are three access points, one to the north from Monastiraki / Plaka, one to the south, convenient for those who descends from the Acropolis and one a little ‘hidden, to the west from Thission. As usual I recommend to arrive as early as possible in the morning, both to get a better light and to avoid overcrowding. For photographers the only slight problem is that the columns of the stoa / museum are in shadow until past noon.
The Stoa of Attalos is the facade of the museum of the Agora. The museum is divided into three parts: the gallery, with various exhibits accessible at all times, the ground floor, closed on Monday until 11.00 and the first floor, closed on Saturday and Sunday.
