Dozza, art village

Italy, Dozza
italia_emiliaDozza is a small but quite unique village, a few kilometers south of Bologna. Over the last 50 years it hosts the Biennial Exhibition of the Painted wall (Biennale del Muro Dipinto). Internationally renowned artists are invited to create their works using the walls of the village as canvases. Therefore, it was created over the years an open air gallery with more than 200 works. The effect is simply amazing!

Like any self-respecting Italian medieval village, Dozza also has its own Castle or La Rocca, which however is not its main attraction too, or at least it wasn’t for us. We preferred to start wandering through the village’s alley and to enjoy the exhibits .

The graffiti murals are everywhere starting from the square where the Castle stands and covering all the streets. As you can see from the images there are no limits to the imagination. The artists used different styles forms and techniques and this is maybe one reason that makes this place so special.
