Not far away from Athens, just a couple of kilometers after Marathon, lies the best preserved ancient village of Attica’s classical era. Rhamnous or Ramnous is situated in an idyllic hilly landscape overlooking the South Evoikos Gulf and it’s a wonderful place to be whether you want to feel like Indiana Jones in the search for ancient traces or just take a walk. Nearby there is an excellent beach where we spent a peaceful night (first week of May).

Euboea, Eretria. Archaeology for the end
This is the final stop in our journey in Euboea. We left for the end the archaeological site and the charming small museum of Eretria on our way back home. The truth is that Euboea was a big surprise for us. It was much more interesting than we expected which explains why we managed to explore only half of the island. We have many reasons to return!
Euboea, Karystos. Columns and ramparts
The strong wind blew away our desire to hang around the beach. Instead of suffering next to the stormy sea, we decided to visit the Venetian fortress which stands on a hill above the town of Karystos and also, weather permitting, to explore the Roman quarries situated further up the mountain Ochi. This place was famous since antiquity for its particular, colorful marble and still has a kind of mystic atmosphere. Definitely worth the hike!
