An oddity, nothing important and probably totally not worth it for a stop… unless you’re a photographer or just curious! Gavros is an entirely abandoned village on the road that connects Prespa lakes to Kastoria and I was attracted to it like a magnet.

As you pass in front of it, it is impossible not to notice the contrast of red houses in ruins in the middle of nature. The causes for abandoning are not very clear. The inhabitants decided to leave the village all together and build a new one a few hundred meters away. Aesthetics aside, it is also a good example of local architecture, with brick traditionally made of hay and earth.
