Curiosity combined with the passion for dogs, took us to visit this lovely town, which gave birth to the famous and highly prized breed of Rottweilers. Dogs aside, is it worth a stop? As in most places, there is always something interesting to discover …

Rottweil is located close to the Black Forest, less than a hundred kilometers from Stuttgart.
The town is quietvery welcoming for motorhomers and the old part is very pretty. Its symbol, the Rottweiler, is present everywhere.
First we go to visit a Rottweiler breeder, who tells us in detail all the secrets of this wonderful animal, often misunderstood and considered overly dangerous. In fact it is one of the most reliable and affectionate dogs that there are, provided it is grown, educated and treated the right way. For the record, a puppy with all the papers in order, will cost around 1,500 Euros.
Above the cathedral, below the tower where going up 12 floors by the narrow wooden stairs, you get to clock terrace with stunning views over the city. To visit it you have to ask for the keys to the tourist office and pay one euro.
Above the modern building of the municipality.
Below the Dominican museum (Dominikanermuseum). Entry 2 €.
Before leaving we visit the saline museum, slightly out of town [48.14829,8.64812] Entry is 2 € for adults and free for young people. Open from May to September, only on Sundays and holidays, from 14.30 to 17.00
The camper stop [48.15569,8.62910], picture at left, costs 5 €/night, € 1 per load of water and 1 € for 8 hours of electricity connection. It is located 1.5 kilometers from the historic center and is quiet for the night. A little further north, instead you can stay in the free parking lot of the swimming pool (Aquasol) [48.15835,8.62932], photo on the right.
We preferred to stay overnight in the parking lot P2 [48.16949,8.62407] near the center (100 meters), well lit and free from 18.00 to 8.00 and then for another two hours, but taking the ticket from the machine. Also handy for grocery shopping, having 2 supermarkets nearby. Two hundred meters ahead htere is another car park [48.16821,8.62113], it is free all day, but it is not lit and is packed from 9 to 17.30.
