Stemnitsa is a small mountain town, about 1000 meters above sea level, considered one of the most beautiful in Arcadia. In Greece it is known for its school of goldsmiths and for the important role it had during the war of independence from the Turks.

Stemnitsa can be a quick stop for a walk in the village and maybe some purchase by the excellent local bakery, or the starting point for a hike along the gorge of the Lousios, taking advantage of its location close to the river. The convenient municipal parking [37.55370,22.07556] at the entrance of the village, although a little sloping is perfect as a base in both cases.

Below: the war memorial and the landscape, which stretches to the nearby plain of Megalopolis, with the impressive powerhouse.
We stopped for the night near the eastern entrance of the village [37.55536,22.08472]. Slightly flatter than the municipal parking lot, but has limited place. For the night, however, I found more convenient the parking lot of Dimitsana [37.59222,22.04252] which I discovered next day, only 6 kilometers away. More details in the next post.
