After years of abstinence, last summer I decided to make the trip in Greece-Italy by ferry. Having already made a round trip a few months earlier by land, this time I preferred the comfort and luxury of traveling as relaxed and carefree I could …

The cost of the ferry has increased a lot in recent years, going so far as to exceed in some cases the cost of the journey by land. At least by calculating the route Patras-Venice, which is the one that interests those who come from or is headed to northern Italy. For this reason I had became a supporter of traveling overland. This time however, Italy being only an intermediate stop before heading to northern Europe, given the days I had available and the kilometers I had to cover, I went for the faster and less tiring option and I have not regretted it.
The choice fell on ANEK lines both for the good reputation they have and for sentimental reasons. I always liked it for the fact that it is a popular company, founded by collecting capital from ordinary people, with no major ship owners and corporations behind it.
If you can get your ticket in advance, by the end of February, you can usually take advantage of the ‘early-booking’ 20% discount, which especially for those with a vehicle under 6 meters, begins to make the price more affordable. The formula camping on board, gives you the ability to live in your motorhome while traveling, making it a real pleasure and so avoiding the inconvenience of having to move in a cabin and to lose the intimacy of your ‘home’. The experience is very positive, even more if you are lucky and you get a place next to the windows: great views are guaranteed. In the second row is not exactly the same, but still better than an interior cabin, if you know what I mean 😉
Available for motorhomers, 220V power supply, bathrooms with hot water showers and of course the opportunity to use of all the common areas of the ship.
Above a futuristic view of Venice.
Here at the side the quiet before the storm: a few minutes before the self-service opens and the row begins. Prices are quite close to those of a restaurant in Venice, though I must admit that the quality of the food is surprisingly higher than what you would expect from a self-service restaurant.
Above a really well made pizza and details of a selection of interesting dishes. The standard of cuisine has definitely improved from what I remembered it to be years ago. Another delicacy are the hot croissants in the morning, but you have to get there early because they disappear quickly!
