Kalamata, the old city


kalamataA problem with the service battery force us to make a stop in Kalamata to wait until we get the new battery ordered from Athens. We take the opportunity to go sightseeing around a city that we always snubbed for no obvious reason. We discover that Kalamata is a rather interesting city where it may be worthwhile stopping for a day or two to stroll around, visit its museum or just do some shopping.

Kardamili and a nearby stopover


stoupaDriving from Neo Itilo to Kardamyli you will notice that the access to the sea is very difficult if not impossible. The few roads are extremely narrow for a camper van and the seacoast is craggy. There is no doubt that it’s not worth the try!  Even so, this beautiful region is not totally out of question. We discovered two beaches that are suitable for motorhomes: the first between Agios Dimitrios and Agios Nikolaos and the second in Kardamyli.

The byzantine town of Mystras


This archaeological site undoubtedly belongs to the “not to be missed” attractions of Peloponnese listed on the UNESCO heritage of humanity sites. It’s a deserted though intact byzantine town built uphill so be prepared for a good long walk uphill; it took us five hours to explore it, starting from the lower town to the ruined castle and back again. The main attraction are the many churches decorated with beautiful frescoes. A very well-spent morning!
