Kalamata seems to be a city divided in two parts: the downtown Kalamata with its shops, everyday life, offices, monuments etc that lies away from the sea and the seaside Kalamata that seems to be more relaxed and holiday-oriented with its cafes, restaurants and souvenir-shops. We enjoyed them both and furthermore we discovered the right place for those who want to buy the famous Kalamata olive-oil and olives.

Kalamata, the old city
A problem with the service battery force us to make a stop in Kalamata to wait until we get the new battery ordered from Athens. We take the opportunity to go sightseeing around a city that we always snubbed for no obvious reason. We discover that Kalamata is a rather interesting city where it may be worthwhile stopping for a day or two to stroll around, visit its museum or just do some shopping.
Kardamili and a nearby stopover
Driving from Neo Itilo to Kardamyli you will notice that the access to the sea is very difficult if not impossible. The few roads are extremely narrow for a camper van and the seacoast is craggy. There is no doubt that it’s not worth the try! Even so, this beautiful region is not totally out of question. We discovered two beaches that are suitable for motorhomes: the first between Agios Dimitrios and Agios Nikolaos and the second in Kardamyli.
