We decided to leave “our shelter”, the peaceful and calm beach of Myrtos, hoping that the windstorm would be gone. It was not. As soon as we left behind us the last houses of Myrtos, we realized that the wind which we thought it had calmed down, just kept blowing. We chose to stick to our plan and continue further east; of course we had no clue about what would happen later in the evening.

Crete: Matala and flower children
Matala has remained famous for its hippy past and for having hosted during its glory years, celebrities such as Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell. Location, climate and its famous caves, were perfect for those who wanted to live in freedom. Today, more than 40 years later, you can still see around some original flower child and the atmosphere has kept something special and positive.
Crete: Agios Pavlos and Agia Galini
Agios Pavlos is known not only for its impressive sand dunes, but also for the yoga seminars that for years are organized here every summer. Agia Galini on the other hand, is not far away and is a much more developed tourist center, with a decent beach, but without much chance of staying overnight, apart from his campsite.
