The ancient city of Pleuron (Plevrona) is located approximately seven kilometers north of Messolonghi. The site is very recent, so much that the excavations are not yet completed, but the most interesting part of the city have been brought to the surface and partly restored.

Messolonghi: a lagoon to discover
Tradition says that the name of Messolonghi is from Italian ‘in mezzo ai laghi’ (among the lakes) and I would say that the description is more than appropriate. The city does not have anything special to offer beside the quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The lagoon and surrounding Tourlida however, are spectacular and as a photographer this is one of my favorite places in Greece … in all seasons.

The coast from Galaxidi to Nafpaktos (Lepanto)
A stretch of coast a little more than 60 kilometers long, which although is not one of the best in Greece, offers some beautiful beaches and some traps. Nefpaktos instead is a gem where, if you manage to park, it is worth to spend at least a few hours walking around the fortress and the old port.
