Rebetiko, the Greek ‘blues’


If you are interested in listening to the original sound of bouzouki the way the locals do, one of the best and most entertaining ways is to enter a rebetadiko. It is something between a bar and a tavern where you can drop in for drink or even enjoy a meal while a music band plays rebetiko, the Greek ‘blues’ music. We visited one of the most traditional rebetadiko in downtown Athens, open at lunchtime too on weekends. Be prepared for dancing…

Euboea, Eretria. Archaeology for the end


This is the final stop in our journey in Euboea. We left for the end the archaeological site and the charming small museum of Eretria on our way back home. The truth is that Euboea was a big surprise for us. It was much more interesting than we expected which explains why we managed to explore only half of the island. We have many reasons to return!

Euboea, beaches at their best

This is our last “sea session” for this trip and I have to say that it was definitely the best one. We had reached the central part of the island, always on the east coast facing the Aegean sea where we visited three beaches including the famous among Greek free-campers Chiliadou. But the biggest surprise was left for the end: a free of charge municipal camping next to a marvellous beach. It’s nice to feel welcome! Continue reading
