I had already been in Ammoudia two or three times, but always out of season to visit the Nekromanteion and the estuary of the mythical Acheron river … I never realized, and I never could have imagined, what happens on the beach during summer!

I remembered it as a quiet place, perfect to spend the night, when visiting the archaeological site of Nekromanteion, now closed for renovation (it should reopen in late November). This year was the first time that I passed by Ammoudia in August. I arrived at my usual spot on the river and all seemed normal, the usual boats of fishermen …
…then I went down to the beach and the shock was huge. I’ve seen less crowded campsites! Ok, I understand it is close to Igoumenitsa, the sea is not so bad, there are showers on the beach, tavernas are good, including the famous Thomas’ one, no one bothers campers parked free … but guys Greece is another thing … however, since it seems that for many that’s okay, who am I to disagree?… [N 39.236425, E 20.480505]
