Rebetiko, the Greek ‘blues’


If you are interested in listening to the original sound of bouzouki the way the locals do, one of the best and most entertaining ways is to enter a rebetadiko. It is something between a bar and a tavern where you can drop in for drink or even enjoy a meal while a music band plays rebetiko, the Greek ‘blues’ music. Plato’s Academy

ateneIf you belong to those who believe that the only evidence left from Plato was his books, maybe you should reconsider. The ruins of his philosophical school, the Academy, are still existing in a degraded neighborhood in the backyard of Athens historic center. Nobody seems to care though! To tell the truth, even I who was born, raised and have spent most of my life in Athens, I had never crossed the threshold of this ‘lost in the crowd’ archaeological site.
