Meteora, minor monasteries

Greece, Meteora, Roussanou Monastery
meteoraMinor so to speak, lets say that these are the ones that are probably best seen from the outside than inside, according to my humble opinion. In this post I present the other four inhabited monasteries, Agios Nikolaos Anapafsas, Roussanou, Agiou Stefanou and Agia Triada which became famous for having been the stage for shooting the James Bond movie, “For Your Eyes Only.”

Agios Nikolaos Anapafsas

It is the first monastery you see when arriving from Kastraki. At first glance it does not seem to be too high, but getting there is a good climb.
All year: 9:00 to 15:30 Closed on Fridays

Roussanou

It is one of the two female monasteries of Meteora. Perhaps the most photogenic and photographed. Inside there is not much to see apart from the church. The trail to get there from the car park above the monastery is really beautiful [39.72141,21.63451].
Winter hours: 9:00 to 14:00 Closed on Wednesdays
Summer hours: 9:00 to 18:00 (in July-August-September open daily)

Agia Triada (Santa Trinità)

Very photogenic too, so much that it has been used as a natural ocation for the James Bond film. Also in this case there is not much to see inside, but the staircase carved into the rock to get to the entrance is very impressive. The entry here costs only € 2, again only for foreigners!
Winter hours: 10:00 to 15:00 Closed Wednesday and Thursday

Agios Stefanos

The most easy to reach, from the car park a small bridge leads directly to the entrance, but also the least interesting of all. This is the most recent of the monasteries, is run by nuns and offers a large, well-stocked gift shop inside.
Winter hours: 9:00 to 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed on Mondays
